The ITF has announced the schedule of play for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals, with tickets on sale from today.

The Finals will take place from 7-12 November on indoor hard courts at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain. Twelve teams will compete for the coveted trophy and to don the iconic Billie Blue Jackets, designed by official Billie Jean King Cup apparel partner Tory Burch.

It is a special year for the competition with Billie Jean King Cup celebrating its 60th anniversary, having been contested for the first time at the Queen’s Club in London in June 1963.

2022 runners-up Australia will contest the first tie of this year’s Finals on Tuesday 7 November, with Alicia Molik’s team up against Finals debutants Slovenia. 2023 winners Switzerland begin their campaign later on the opening day, taking on 11-time world champions Czechia.

Spain’s Group C ties against Canada and Poland will be played in the evening sessions on Wednesday 8 November and Friday 10 November respectively. Two match courts will be in use for ties on Thursday 9 November and Friday 10 November.

Teams will compete in four groups of three during the group stage, with the four group winners advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday 11 November. The final on Sunday 12 November will see the two remaining teams battle to be crowned world champions. The full schedule is available below.

Conchita Martinez, Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals Tournament Director, said: “We look forward to welcoming tennis fans from all over the world to Seville in November.

"Representing my country was a highlight of my career and playing in front of passionate crowds in Billie Jean King Cup ties was a memory I will always cherish.

"We encourage fans to buy their tickets now so that they do not miss out on such a special event.”

Estadio de La Cartuja has a storied history of hosting ITF team competitions, having been the venue for two of Spain’s six Davis Cup triumphs, the first of which was in 2004, when a Spanish team including an 18-year-old Rafael Nadal defeated USA to win the title for a second time.

The second occasion was in 2011 when Nadal overcame Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro to secure Spain’s fifth Davis Cup title-victory. The stadium has also hosted major football, athletics and music events.

The ITF announced a partnership with the Junta de Andalucia earlier this year, which will see the region host multiple ITF major team events in 2023.

The Davis Cup Finals will take place in Malaga for a second successive year on 21-26 November, while the Davis Cup Juniors Finals (week commencing 30 October) and Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Juniors Finals (week commencing 6 November) will both be hosted in Cordoba.

Since its re-brand from Fed Cup in 2020, Billie Jean King Cup has continued to develop as a bold, powerful platform for the growth of women’s tennis across the world.

It was broadcast in an unprecedented 196 territories in 2022, and a record 134 nations have entered this year. Champions Switzerland took home a record $2m for their triumph at the 2022 Finals in Glasgow.

The ITF also welcomed new title sponsor Gainbridge and new apparel partner Tory Burch in 2022, joining Microsoft and Magellan as the global sponsors of the event.

“We are delighted to announce that tickets are on sale for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals and we urge tennis fans from Andalucia and beyond to secure their places to watch the world’s finest tennis players compete for their nations," said ITF President David Haggerty.

"The Billie Jean King Cup is known for its unique atmosphere and we are sure that fans at this year’s Finals will enjoy a fantastic event.

“We thank our partners at the Junta de Andalucia for their assistance in organising the final stages of both the women’s and men’s World Cup of Tennis in 2023, as well as our title sponsors Gainbridge and all other Billie Jean King Cup sponsors and partners.”

Arturo Bernal, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucia, added: "It fills us with pride that a venue such as La Cartuja, the management of which we are so involved in and which we have recovered as a first-class facility, has been chosen to host the tournament.

"It has already hosted the Davis Cup Finals, Copa del Rey Finals and Euro 2020. Now once again it is going to demonstrate its status as a fantastic venue for major sporting events.”

Elsewhere in Billie Jean King Cup action in November, 16 teams will compete in eight home-and-away Play-off ties, with the winning nations advancing to the Qualifiers in 2024.
