Hiding on the 9th floor of Rail House and still refusing to properly engage with us, this afternoon Merseyrail still saw and heard from the people they plan to ban.
Hundreds of people whose lives will be affected by Merseyrail’s blanket e-bike ban gathered outside Liverpool City Region’s offices today, outlining their concerns to councillors ahead of a Transport Committee meeting. Their main question: what can they do to get Merseyrail to engage with us?
But the culprit is Merseyrail, not Liverpool City Region, so those failed by Merseyrail then rode up to Merseyrail’s offices, where Cycling UK’s Director of External Affairs Steve Brooks delivered a report to Merseyrail summarising over 100 case studies gathered by Cycling UK – heart wrenching stories about the people and lives transformed by e-bikes but derailed by Merseyrail.
We’d told Merseyrail that Steve was happy to discuss the report with them, but they didn’t want to chat today. That means we still need to keep up the pressure on them to agree to meaningfully engage with Cycling UK and other concerned groups, disclose the report they claim informed this decision, and stop hiding away!
So, if you haven’t emailed Merseyrail to complain about their ban, please do so today.
And if you have but they’ve just dismissed your complaint, please reply to their email them and request an internal review by a senior manager.
