Progress update on separation fencing

Phase 2 and 3 of works on the southern section of the Busway are anticipated to be finished by the end of February. We will then begin separation fencing works on Phases 4 and 5 including the remainder of the Addenbrooke’s spur from the start of March.

We have doubled the workforce on the southern section which has significantly sped up works and will reduce the overall length of disruption for bus passengers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Phases 4 and 5 works are due to carry on through to May 2026. The maintenance track, the path that runs alongside the Busway, will be closed for the duration of these works. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes and urge everyone to leave extra time for your commute and to plan your journey in advance.

A diversion route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling from Trumpington Park & Ride will be in place, via Hobsons Avenue, Addenbrookes Road and Francis Crick Avenue. If heading south to the Campus from Cambridge Station, you may prefer to go via Long Road and Robinson Way. One lane of the Busway will remain open for buses heading towards Addenbrooke’s and the Biomedical Campus, with diversions in place for buses travelling from the campus towards Trumpington Park & Ride and Cambridge Station.

Further details will be shared on the Guided Busway improvements webpage ahead of the start of works in these areas.

Work to install separation fencing between Pagram Way and Histon is also progressing well and is on track to be completed before the end of March. After this phase, we will be installing fencing between Pagram Way and Cambridge Regional College.

These improvements are part of the county council's commitment to health and safety on the Guided Busway.

Feedback from Histon crossing survey

We received 836 responses to the recent survey about creating a new crossing in Histon. Two locations were suggested, one by Manor Park and the other by the Community Orchard.

Of those who responded to the survey, 55% indicated they lived in Histon and 29% in Impington. 96% of those who completed the survey said they use the maintenance track for leisure, 34% for commuting and 7% for to access to education.

59% of respondents preferred a new crossing at Histon Community Orchard (option B) 17% preferred a new crossing at Manor Park. 17% of respondents had no preference between the two locations and 3.7% did not support a new crossing.

We are committed to engaging with the local community in Histon and Impington and plan to hold another drop-in event in March.

Path flooding updates

From experience we expect the Guided Busway maintenance track to be closed due to flooding for around the next month. Gates are closed from Second Drove to Mo Fen, Swavesey. Signs are also put in place to advise of the closure.

We would remind people that trespassing on the Busway is strictly prohibited, and that they must keep to the maintenance track or formal crossing points for their own safety. Trespassing on the busway tracks is an offence, and the county council reserve the right to take enforcement action.

We alert Busway users to flooding closures and path reopenings via our social media networks; please follow our Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn channels. We encourage you to share these notices into your local community groups and pages.

Reporting an incident on the Busway

We have a team of Busway health and safety officers who are regularly out and about on the Busway, reporting any issues and ordering repair work as needed.

If you spot any problems along the Busway, including the maintenance track, or the path that runs alongside it, you can raise these concerns on our website.

You'll see QR codes along the Busway to help make reporting incidents and near misses easier while you're out and about.
