Works progress update

Works between Pagram Way and Milton Road have been completed ahead of schedule. The Guided Busway and adjacent path reopened on Sunday 23 August 2026 prior to the start of the academic year at Cambridge Regional College.  

As sections of safety works are completed along the Guided Busway, our Busway safety officers review and monitor the area to review and assess changes in behaviour in reaction to the new fencing. Where it is safe to do so, we will look to lift speed limits on the Busway once safety measures are working effectively. We continue to work with Cambridgeshire Constabulary to tackle anti-social and illegal behaviour along the route.  

Works between Milton Road and Cambridge North Station will begin in mid-September and are anticipated to take around eight weeks. We plan to continue to install the green coloured ‘weld mesh’ fencing along this section of the route.  

During the work between Milton Road and Cambridge North Station, access will be maintained for buses throughout the works. Buses will not be diverted. As in other sections, the path will remain open for use by pedestrians, cyclists and Voi e-scooter users. We ask that everyone share the space with care, as the path will be narrower than usual while works are taking place. 

Speed limits on the Busway path

The Guided Busway shared use path is used every day by a wide range of people. Whether you’re walking, wheeling, cycling or riding, please remember to be considerate of others and share the path with care. 

A permanent 15mph speed limit is in place for cyclists and other active travel users on all sections of the Busway shared use path. The speed limit is an important measure to enable safe active travel for all users of the shared use pathway. Please keep to the 15mph speed limit when using the path.  

We are working with the police to monitor the speed limit on the Busway. We encourage members of the public to report any unsafe, anti-social and illegal behaviour on the Busway to the county council or the police, as appropriate. Safety concerns can be reported via our web form or alternatively, you can contact us via the QR code located on signs along the Busway maintenance track. 

Start of term

With the start of term fast approaching, we encourage all Busway users – particularly those who may be new to the route - to check timetables and route updates for any disruption before they travel. Bus operators Stagecoach and Whippet offer service updates via their webpages, social media and apps. 

Please remember to: 

• Cross at the official Busway crossing points.
• Keep to the 15mph speed limit when using the path alongside the Busway. 
• Be respectful and considerate of other path users. 

Do not venture on to the Guided Busway track.  

Please be aware that motorbikes and privately owned e-scooters are not permitted on the Busway. The use of private e-scooters on roads and pavements remains illegal. Only the use of Voi e-scooters, (which are currently running as a government-backed trial in parts of Cambridgeshire) are permitted.   

We continue to work with the police to tackle anti-social and illegal behaviour on and around the Busway.
