Progress update

Trumpington Park & Ride to Cambridge Station

Earlier this week, we removed the three-way traffic lights from the southern section of Busway near the Addenbrookes Spur junction, as we move towards completing all the separation fencing in this area.

There are a few places where special panels are required. We are currently waiting for these panels to be delivered. Installation of the panels will involve minimal disruption to the Busway.

St Ives to Cambridge North

We are continuing to install fencing between Pagram Way, Orchard Park and Milton Road. This section is expected to be finished by the end of July. Following this, we will move to the Milton Road to Cambridge North section to complete separation fencing in this area.

Work from Histon to St Ives is expected to start in late summer, and we will share more details on the programme and phasing once we have appointed the contractor. Crossing improvement works will be co-timed with the separation fencing works wherever possible to make best use of the required Busway closures.

Feedback from the public meeting

We would like to thank all those who came along and shared their feedback at the public drop-in session at Histon Baptist Church last week. Around 30 people attended the event and lots of helpful feedback was received about the plans.

We shared information about the new formal Busway crossing between the Community Orchard and factory showing images of the anticipated design and path. As part of these works, we are also proposing a new surfaced path along the edge of Manor Field to the alleyway at the rear of Somerset Road. This should provide all-weather access via the crossing to the Busway path and Histon Woods.

Work to install the new crossing will take place at the same time as separation fencing is installed in this location. Work on the separation fencing along this section of the Busway is expected to start in late summer. More detailed timings will be shared via this newsletter and our webpages nearer the start of works.

Committee meeting - 30 June 2026

The next Highways and Transport Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 30 June at 10am at New Shire Hall and includes an update on the Guided Busway works.

The meeting will be broadcast live via Cambridgeshire County Council’s YouTube channel where the recording is also available to view following the meeting.

Information on how our Committees work and public participation can be found on our website.

Anti-social behaviour on the Busway

We encourage members of the public to report any unsafe, anti-social and illegal behaviour on the Busway to the County Council or the police, as appropriate. Safety concerns can be reported via our web form. Alternatively, you can scan the QR code on signs along the busway track to find the form when using the path.

We are particularly keen to hear from local people when illegal e-scooters, dirt bikes and motor scooters are spotted on the Busway. Please note that all private e-scooters are illegal to use on UK roads and are also not allowed on the Busway path. Only Voi trial e-scooters which are limited to 15mph are permitted.

When making any reports, please ensure you share the date, location and time. We are continuing to work with the police to tackle anti-social behaviour across the wider Busway area.

Our next newsletter will be published the week commencing 13 July 2026.
