General update on works

Orchard Park to Milton Road works continue with fencing being installed between Orchard Park and Cambridge Regional College. Works start soon to install separation fencing between the College and Milton Road. As well as separation fencing between the path and the Busway, perimeter fencing is being installed between Garry drive and the Busway track. The closure of the Busway track remains in place in this area. The path is open to pedestrians and cyclists.

The A bus service uses the route via Orchard Park. B Buses are diverted around the closure via Kings Hedges Road and Milton Road and continue to serve Cambridge North Station in both directions.

The following alternative stops are available for the B bus:

  • For Cambridge Regional College, please use Orchard Park West stops

In place of Histon & Impington stop city-bound, services depart from the number 8 bus stop near the shop (the existing St Ives bound stop on the Busway remains open).

  • The alternative stop for Cambridge Science Park is on Milton Road outside the car dealership and on the opposite side of the road (what3words /// chair.palace.intelligible).

  • The bus continues to serve Milton Road. It stops outside the Golden Hind and uses the new style bus stop diagonally opposite (what3words /// crisis.chips.outfit).

On the southern section, works have started at the Addenbrookes Spur junction and are progressing well. Temporary traffic lights are in place, but this is not causing noticeable delays services. Work on the junction is expected to be completed in mid-June.

Works are ongoing to install the bespoke panels of railings along the sections where separation fencing has been installed on both the northern and southern sections. In the southern section, this work is due to be completed in mid-June.

All works between Cambridge Station and Trumpington Park & Ride should finish in late June. We would like to thank everyone for their patience throughout the works.

Reminder of public engagement event

We’re inviting residents of Histon and Impington to attend a further drop-in event on Tuesday 9 June, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Histon Baptist Church.

This public meeting in Histon and Impington will provide a further update about the safety improvements we’re undertaking along the busway, including plans for the new crossing at Histon Orchard.

We plan to hold other similar events elsewhere as works progress and new crossing arrangements are considered in other locations along the Busway.

Works maintenance closures

We’ll be carrying out routine annual maintenance on the busway over upcoming weekends, which will involve local closures of both the Busway and the path which runs alongside it. These works include lifting and realigning the concrete beams, which make up the Busway track.

Signs will be in place to inform people in advance of these works. Buses will be diverted around the works and serve temporary stops. We’ll provide further updates on future planned closures through the newsletter and on our website.

Work is planned to take place on the following weekends:

  • 30-31 May - Park Lane, Histon to Cambridge Road, Impington.
  • 6-7 June - between St Ives and Swavesey.

Separately, contractors associated with Cambridge South station will be carrying out works on the Addenbrookes spur of the southern section of the Busway from 8am, 30 May to 12pm, 31 May.

Works include the removal of temporary fencing and graffiti ahead of the opening of the new Cambridge South Station. The Busway track remains open with no disruption to services expected, but the path will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists between these times.

Reporting an incident on the Busway

We have a team of Busway health and safety officers who are regularly out and about on the Busway reporting any issues and ordering repair work as needed.

If you spot any problems along the Busway, including the maintenance track, or path that runs alongside it, you can raise these concerns on our website.

You’ll see QR codes along the Busway to help make reporting incidents and near misses easier while you’re out and about.

Report a Busway incident or near miss

Our next newsletter will be issued the week commencing 15 June 2026.
