Phase 7 works started

Work on phase 7 between Pagram Way, Orchard Park and Cambridge North started as planned on Sunday 19 April. Separation fencing is currently being put in between Orchard Park and Cambridge Regional College.

Students for Cambridge Regional College should use Orchard Park East bus stop. Temporary stops are in place on Milton Road for Cambridge Science Park, located outside the car dealership (what3words (///chair.palace.intelligible) and opposite the Golden Hind (what3words (///crisis.chips.outfit). During this closure B Buses are diverted via Kings Hedges Road and Milton Road inbound and vice versa outbound and will continue to serve Cambridge North in both directions.

Whilst the change in the works location means the A bus now resumes its usual route into Cambridge from the north, the B bus will continue to serve the temporary stop near the shop in Impington in place of the Histon and Impington city-bound stop to enable the diversion.

Phase 7 works include the construction of safety fencing between the Busway and the foot and cycle path as well as perimeter fencing between Garry Drive and the Busway track.

Fencing the Southern Section

Fencing was completed along the Addenbrookes Spur on Tuesday 28 April. The Busway reopened on Wednesday 29 April.

Due to separate work being carried out on Francis Crick Avenue at the end of the Addenbrookes Spur, we could not re-open the foot and cycle path. We have been working with the contractor in this area to make sure that the appropriate safety measures are in place and the path has now reopened from Wednesday 6 May. The construction team are now working to fill in areas where bespoke fence panels are required on the Trumpington Spur.

We started installing fencing and new kerbs at the junction of the Busway with the Addenbrookes Spur on Tuesday 5 May. Buses will continue to run along the Busway with traffic lights in place at the junction. A very short diversion for cyclists and pedestrians is in place for this section of the maintenance track.

Histon and Impington public meeting

We’re inviting residents of Histon and Impington to attend a further drop-in event on Tuesday 9 June, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, at Histon Baptist Church.

This public meeting in Histon and Impington will provide a further update about the safety improvements we’re undertaking along the busway, including plans for the new crossing at Histon Orchard.

Speed limits along the Busway

The temporary speed limit along the Busway remains in place, with speeds reduced to 30mph along the Busway and 20mph at crossing points. This is temporary until permanent fencing and barriers have been installed. We are reviewing these speed limits as each section of fencing is completed.

There is a speed limit of 15mph along the maintenance track (the path alongside the Busway). Motorcycles and electric bikes that exceed 15mph are not allowed along the maintenance track. This is for the safety of everyone and is being implemented in partnership with the police. We would remind all users to be considerate of each other when travelling along the maintenance track.

Please remember, if you spot any issues, or near misses, help us by letting us know via the QR code on signs along the busway, or through our website.

Planned weekend maintenance

We’ll be carrying out routine maintenance on the busway over upcoming weekends, which will involve local closures of both the Busway and the path which runs alongside it.

Signs will be in place to inform people in advance of these works. We’ll provide further updates on future planned closures through the newsletter and on our website.

Work is planned to take place on the following weekends:

  • 9 to 10 and 16 to 17 May: Longstanton to Oakington
  • 30 to 31 May: Park Lane to Histon
  • 6 to 7 June: St Ives to Swavesey

Additionally, the foot and cycle path on the Addenbrookes spur will be closed from 8am 30 May to 12 noon on 31 May whilst works takes place to remove temporary fencing and graffiti prior to Cambridge South Station opening in June 2026.

Our next newsletter will be published in three weeks' time.
