Temporary closure of the busway - Trumpington Spur

Due to urgent safety works, there will be a closure of the Busway between Trumpington Park and Ride and Foster Road from 11pm on Thursday 8 October until the afternoon of Monday 12 October. The closure is required whilst we carry out an urgent repair to a section of the Busway between Hauxton Road bridge and Shelford Road bridge.

Buses using this section will be diverted onto the road network to avoid the closure.

Busway safety fencing - update

Safety fencing is being installed between Milton Road and Cambridge North Station. During the work, access will be maintained for cyclists, pedestrians and buses to Cambridge North Station. The green weld mesh fencing is expected to take up to eight weeks to complete.

Access will continue to Cambridge North Station for buses and they will not be diverted. The path alongside the Busway will remain open during this period for pedestrians, cyclists and Voi e-scooter users. As the path will be narrower than usual with works in place, everyone is encouraged to take extra care when sharing the Busway path.

Good behaviour on the busway path reminder

The Busway path is used by a variety of people every day and it’s important that all users follow this simple advice to help ensure it’s a safe space for all:

  • ‌make sure any crossing is clear before beginning to cross, and only using crossing points
  • dismount from bikes or scooters when at crossing points
  • respect other busway path users and share the path safely
  • follow the speed restrictions in place on the Busway path
  • do not trespass onto the Busway.

If you spot any problems along the Busway, including the Busway path, you can raise these concerns on our website. You'll see QR codes along the Busway to help make reporting incidents and near misses more easily while you're out and about.

Busway points of interest

Take a trip to Fen Drayton Lakes.

The Busway journeys through many places of interest in Cambridgeshire and we’re highlighting some places where you might want to stop and explore or try something new.

Located near to St Ives, Fen Drayton Lakes is a nature reserve looked after by the RSPB. A home to a variety of habitats, animals, birds and insects, it’s somewhere which shines at this time of the year with leaves turning to autumn colours and migratory birds arriving for winter.

On the RSPB’s website, there are a range of walking trails around the reserves ranging from one to three miles, or you can combine multiple trails together. The reserves can be accessed by foot or bike on the maintenance path from St Ives, or via the guided bus.
