Digital Spaces VR Tour

Look out for our exciting VR tour where you can experience the world of Monoliths, Wallace & Gromit, The Lark Ascending, Doorstep Duets and Digital Spaces: People in Places films. The project is supported by Arts Council England, the British Film Institute and The Space.


Ask at the library or email them to book a free VR session, or look out for drop in sessions.


Children under 12 years old will need a signed parental consent form and to be accompanied by an adult.

Staff Training in Libraries

Huntingdon and Sawtry libraries will both be closed for staff training on the morning of Wednesday 21 October.


Huntingdon Library will reopen at 1:30pm and Sawtry Library at 2pm that day. We will of course be extending dates on any items due back on this day.

St. Neots library will also be closed on Thursday 15 October for staff training from 9:30am-1pm and will be open in the afternoon as usual.

 Library Temporary Closures

Wisbech Library will be closed for essential building improvements from Saturday 19 Sept until Tuesday 29 Sept. After which it will be open four days a week for an interim service, including access to Barclays, Lloyds and Halifax banks, until November 2026, exact date to be confirmed. During this time the opening times will be 9:30-5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9:30am-1pm on Saturdays. 

Whittlesey Library will be closed for essential building improvements from Monday 28 Sept until January 2027, exact date to be confirmed. An interim ‘Click & Collect’ service will be available from Whittlesey Museum from Friday 2 October on Fridays and Saturdays: 10am-1pm.

The Library Presents events will still go ahead, please check the TLP website for information on the alternative venues: Library Live | The Library Presents

Sawtry Library will be closed from Monday 26 October for a period of approximately 2 weeks to carry out essential building maintenance. We plan to reopen on Tuesday 10 November following completion of the works.

Soham Library Re-opening

Soham Library is open!


Soham Library re-opened on Monday 14 September after having new windows fitted as part of an ongoing programme of library improvements. 


We would now like to invite you to a party on Saturday 10 October, 10-1pm. Learn about the history of the library with our Local Studies Librarian, Mary Burgess, find out about the groups we host, build with LEGO and have your face painted.


Bring your library card or sign up on the day and enter our raffle. Most importantly, join us at 10am for the official ribbon cutting and CAKE!

Netloan Service Update

Our public computers will be receiving a software update on Tuesday 6 October.


This means that there will be no access to our public PC’s in any Cambridgeshire Library that day, including our remote function on our website that allows you to reserve a library computer from home.


We apologise for this inconvenience and expect access to return to normal on Wednesday 7 October.

 

Black History Month

October is Black History Month, a celebration of Black heritage and history in the UK. The theme for 2026 is “Honouring Our Communities”, which “asks us to recognise the people whose care, courage and commitment strengthen our communities every day: those who teach, mentor, volunteer, campaign, create, serve and open doors for others.”

Don’t forget that you can visit our catalogue online to browse our many fiction and non-fiction books by Black British authors and about Black heritage. You can also visit your local library and browse our displays.

October 19-25 October is Get Online Week, the UK’s biggest digital inclusion campaign.

Did you know that Cambridgeshire Libraries have a range of resources to help people get online safely and make the most of the digital world? We can help you access the internet with devices and data via our LendIt collection and the National Databank and improve your digital skills and learn new ones with Learn My Way

Many of our libraries also offer one to one support through appointments with our volunteer Digital Buddies or drop-in sessions. Ask at your local library to find out more.

Discover the extraordinary life of the Queen of Crime!

From 30 October, Cambridge Central Library will host a panel display based on the British Library’s landmark London exhibition celebrating the world’s most popular crime writer. The display will tour our larger libraries from January 2027.

'Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery' is brought to Cambridgeshire Libraries through the British Library’s Living Knowledge Network.

 

Green Libraries Week

Green Libraries Week, 21-28 October, celebrates how libraries can help communities stay well informed to engage with the challenges of climate change. 

Check out books for all ages from Cambridgeshire Libraries' Climate Change, Energy and Environment collection . A top read, addressing mis- and disinformation, with data, is Hannah Ritchie’s Clearing the Air: a hopeful guide to solving climate change – in 50 questions and answers.

National Poetry Day

October 1 is National Poetry Day and this year’s theme is “wonder”. Drop into your library or search our online catalogue to find poetry for every situation and occasion.

Did you know that this year we’re taking part in the Cambridge Poetry Festival? Join us at Cambridge Central Library on Saturday 10 October for a Children’s Sensory Poetry Workshop with poet Anna Shelton. Free and all welcome but booking recommended. Parents/carers to stay with their children.
