School Health Pulse provides the latest research on children and young people's health

School Health Pulse has been developed by researchers at Cambridge University as a means for teachers to access bite-sized summaries of the latest research across several health themes. A number of the reports and articles can be accessed for free from the website: School Health Pulse

There is also the option to sign up to the newsletter: School Health Pulse Newsletter sign-up

Annual Activity Survey and Year 11 Destinations Booklet update

Between September and December, the local authority completes the Annual Activity Survey and records the destination activity of all year 11 leavers as well as year 12 leavers. This equates to approximately 14,000 young people in Cambridgeshire.

We have a deadline of Friday 31 January to return data to the department for education and we are on track for completing this on time.

Once we have submitted, we will compile a destinations booklet for all year 11 leavers for Cambridgeshire, and school specific reports, which will be shared with schools just after February half term.

For queries, please contact Mark Cowdell

Religious Education resources

The Woolfe Institute has a number of free interfaith resources for KS3 and KS4 available on their website which complement a Religion and Worldviews approach to RE. The resources include teachers guides, videos, lesson plans, glossaries, and discussions encouraging students to relate content to their own experience and worldviews.

Schools can also invite Woolf Institute scholars and students to deliver the content in person; or book a Lunchtime Online visit where a single researcher (staff or postgraduate student) can meet with a gathering of students over Zoom or Teams at lunchtime.

Swimming pool carers and qualifications

Schools are reminded that they should not operate their pool unless the plant is serviceable and is operated by a qualified and trained, nominated Pool Carer. All staff managing school pools, the operation and upkeep of water treatment plant, chemicals, equipment and water hygiene chemicals must be trained on the LA approved course of instruction covering the full scope of their duties.

All Pool managers must obtain the CCC or equivalent Small Pool Operator’s Certificate and must re-validate this training every 3 years by attending an update seminar.

Full details of the CC Swimming Pool Guidance are available at the following link:
