National Year of Reading

Proud to support The National Year of Reading 2026, Go All In.

Welcome to the National Year of Reading!

Reading for pleasure and purpose brings so many benefits, and the library is always here to help you with reading choices.

According to research by The Queen’s Reading Room just five minutes of reading can reduce stress by nearly 20%, and reading earlier in the day can make you feel more connected to others and ready to tackle challenges.

A January resolution to squeeze in a few minutes of reading each day could really support your wellbeing this year!

Holocaust Memorial Day

Purple image of candles lit in candle holders, with the text 'Light the darkness, 27 January 8pm, light a candle and safely put it in your window, #LightTheDarkness'

Holocaust Memorial Day, 27th January

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026, 'Bridging Generations', is a call to action. The responsibility of remembrance doesn't end with the survivors - it lives on through their children, grandchildren and through all of us. Holocaust Memorial Day calls us to engage actively with the past: listen, learn and carry lessons forward to build a bridge between memory and action, history and hope for the future.

To find memoirs of the holocaust, visit our online catalogue Home | Cambridgeshire Libraries and type Holocaust in the search bar.

Dry January is a campaign by Alcohol Change UK which encourages people to go alcohol free for 31 days.

Alcohol is linked to many health concerns, but taking a break for just one month can bring benefits including better sleep, improved mood, more energy and saving money. It also helps develop the skills to reduce alcohol intake long term.

Download Alcohol Change UK’s free Try Dry app to track progress and experience the benefits of going alcohol free.

You can visit Alcohol Change UK for more information and access further resources to help prepare for your Dry January.

Dry January is not suitable for people who are alcohol dependent. Support is available for anyone affected by alcohol use through our local treatment service - "Change Grow Live".
