Sector support offers

The Innovation Zone at LGA Annual Conference

Tuesday 1 – Thursday 3 July 2025 | ACC Liverpool

The Innovation Zone at LGA Annual Conference offers a vibrant, creative space within the LGA’s Annual Conference, which enables councils to showcase their new ideas and solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing local government.

This year’s programme will include more than 40 engaging sessions from across the country, showcasing work on key issues of significance for the sector – ranging from social services, and digital technologies, to public health and workforce.

We will share excellent practice that all delegates can learn from and utilise to create tangible, positive impact in their own councils and communities.

The Innovation Zone will once again be using headsets as part of the session delivery. For delegates with additional needs, we have a limited number of hearing aid compatible headsets available for use. Please ask an Innovation Zone staff member for more information.

Support after the local government elections

The LGA's comprehensive support offer for new and existing councillors includes our councillor hub. The hub provides a whole host of support and resources to help councillors learn more about the work of the LGA and how we can support councils, including political support. We also offer support to all councils where there is a change of political control, including help with leadership transition post-election, and mentoring for new leaders and portfolio holders. To support new councillors in their roles, the LGA has produced an overview of the information, resources and details of support on hand for new councillors.

Peer ambassador communications toolkit

The newly launched peer ambassador communications toolkit provides member peers with tools to help communicate and promote the values of sector led improvement and peer challenge. we strongly encourage peers to share your experience of delivering peer challenge and other peer support across your networks, including social media networks. Peers are at the heart of the peer challenge process, providing a 'practitioner perspective' and 'critical friend' challenge. Find out how to contribute to local government improvement and become an officer peer or member peer.
