This week's newsletter is a little different. Rather than sharing information about a forthcoming event and why it might matter to you, I want to ask you something instead: what do you actually need from your professional development right now?
Edgar Schein, one of the world's most respected leadership thinkers, argued that asking questions to which you do not already know the answer is one of the most underused tools in leadership. We think that applies equally to those who design professional development for leaders - which is why we are asking.
You are leading in conditions that look quite different from even two years ago. Budgets are stretched. Priorities compete even more sharply. The policy landscape keeps shifting. What leaders need from their professional development has shifted alongside all of that.
ASCL PD has a strong offer. We know it matters to those who attend. But we want to make sure it continues to matter and that what we develop and refine going forward genuinely reflects what you need, not simply what we believe you need.
The survey is where that conversation starts. It takes around six to eight minutes to complete and is open to everyone, whether you attend our events regularly, occasionally, or not at all. It will directly shape what we prioritise and commission next. And if you are willing to go further, there is an invitation within it to join a small focus group and continue the conversation with me directly. Those who attend the focus group will receive a 10% discount off our Autumn Leadership Conferences taking place in the autumn term.
